Mike Cope is a freelance cartoonist from Stoney Creek, Ontario and 2016/17 recipient of an Artists in Education Grant from the Ontario Arts Council. His humorous cartoons have been published both nationally and internationally by Reader’s Digest and others. He has also designed a variety of cartoon illustrations, storyboards and animations for clients including: MADD Canada, The Canadian Reader, and Mad Science Group.
Since 1996, Mike has facilitated hundreds of cartooning & animation workshops to thousands of students ranging from preschoolers to professional educators. In 2016, he was nominated for the City of Hamilton Arts Award in Arts Education & Community Arts. Since 2006, he has volunteered as judge for the District School Board of Niagara’s 2D Animation Skills Competitions.
Mike’s education includes a Combined Honours BA in Multimedia & Anthropology (McMaster University), an Art Fundamentals Certificate (Sheridan College), 2-years of Classical Animation (Sheridan College), and a Bachelor of Education in Communications Technology (Brock University).
He’s a member of the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) and the National Cartoonists Society (NCS)—the world’s largest and most prestigious organization of professional cartoonists.
